The DotLand game project was designed and developed for use on the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. We were given a brief to design a classic puzzle game with a small twist. So we thought of the squares game, where players are presented with a grid of dots, which must be connected by turn. The player who draws the last line enclosing the square owns that square. The player with the most squares then wins the game.
We started the project by sketching some character designs and a series of interfaces that would ensure the app, once created, would be appealing and addictive.
We designed 36 levels in the full version and 16 levels in the free version. In order to make the game more exciting, DotLand introduced hidden dots, boxes, prizes and traps on new levels.
DotLand is now available worldwide from Apple's App Store. The full version is $0.99 in the U.S. and is priced accordingly in other regions.
